Sheep wool insulation fibres are hygroscopic and therefore have a natural ability to absorb, store and release moisture without affecting thermal performance. This ability to control condensation is especially relevant to timber frame structures where the sheep’s wool insulation draws excess moisture from the wood and conditions the frames to protect against structural damage.

Additionally sheeps wool insulation can improve indoor air quality by permanently absorbing noxious gases emitted from various man-made building products. All of our natural insulation products are treated to ensure that they are fire safe and resistant to mould and pests.

Black Mountain sheeps wool insulation has approximately 95% natural fibre content – one of the highest available on the market. This combined with the resilient nature of sheep wool insulation ensures that this natural insulation will maintain its structure and performance throughout the life of the building.

Sheep’s wool insulation is completely safe to handle without protective clothing and is available in roll and batt form. Wool loft insulation can be applied over man-made mineral fibre insulation to avoid disturbing existing fibres. Sheep wool fibres are biodegradable and can be composted into the ground to enrich the soil. Alternatively sheep’s wool insulation can be recycled or incinerated for additional energy.
